Released only on cassette, and only to members of the official fan club, History is a collection of early Alphaville demo tracks, some b-sides, a few out-takes, two live tracks (“Big in Japan” and “Islands” – a version of “On Islands” from the group New Musik) and a Reggae cover of “Forever Young” by a Jamaican band.
“Leben Ohne Ende” is a version of “Seeds” with German lyrics.
The cover is a drawing of three dolphins (complete with hair and clothes) in the same pose as Bernhard, Marian and Ricky on the cover of Afternoons in Utopia. It is very similar to a picture drawn by Christiano Urban, which appeared in the Utopia Mirror.
